What's Wrong With The Bills Pt.1 The Owner

This is part 1 in a 4 part series examining what the problem is with my beloved buffalo bills and why they have totally sucked since Jim Kelly retired. This first installment focuses on bills owner Ralph C. Wilson Jr. First i will give credit where credit is due Ralph put the bills in buffalo and he has kept them here.End of credit. In this series i will mainly focus on the years of 1980-present because those are the years i know the best. First the coaches,I would say that the last coach with a solid reputation that ralph hired was Chuck Knox who lifted the bills out of the abyss of the 70's to AFC East champs in 1980.Knox resigned in 1982 because ralph would not pay him. After knox came the dark days of Kay Stephenson and Hank Bullough. Then ralphie got lucky when he hired unknown CFL G.M Bill Polian as his g.m in 1986. JACKPOT! polian the hired Former K.C head coach and TV anylyst Marv Levy as head coach in 86.Let's not sugar coat it here folks the bills' super bowl era was because of bill polian not marv levy.Ralph always has to be the # 1 guy in the orginization which is understandable because he is the owner but polian challeged that notion and was promptly fired in 1993.Polian is a genius and firing him was ralph's biggest and costliest mistake he has ever made.It cost us as fans possibly a few more trips to the super bowl and many more winning seasons.

The current era of bills football (2000-present) has been dreadful. We have seen countless draft picks wasted on bums, poor coaches (g.williams,M.mularkey,D.Jauron) the promotion of the public relations guy to general manager (idiot russ brandon) and his refusal to talk about the teams future after his death which is holding us all hostage. In closing when looking at bills history the 60,s were ok(Good coach in lou saban) 70's were horrible 80's were awful until polian fell into his lap which led the great success in the early 90's.Lets not forget ralph made the call on benching Doug Flutie the week of the bills' last playoff berth in 1999 to start rob johnson! That alone tells you what this guy knows about football players.NOTHING! I agree with comments Bills great Thurman Thomas recently said "The bills will never see great success again until ralph wilson is gone"
